Molly Roffey's Irish Pub

Rarely do we come across many good Irish pubs is Singapore let alone one that served good food and Guinness. Molly Roffey's Irish Pub is one of the longest home grown Irish pubs that had grown their roots in our Little Red Dot.

This joint is along New Bridge Road near to the crossed junction of where Cantoment Police Station is. Right below Dorsett Residence, where the gold plated words catches your attention, Molly Roffey's Irish Pub stood.

Molly Roffey's Irish Pub had been around in Singapore since 2010 start by a true Irish Man. Irish is famous for their Guinness & Irish Whiskey.

You will see this on almost every tap in every Irish pubs which serves thick, smooth stout that just slides down your throat. I wasn't a real fan of Guinness but decided to give it a shot at Molly. Smoothing texture with light fragrance of the roasted unmalted barley fills your taste bud when it flows through your throat.

The menu has a wide range of products from starters to desserts and snack food for your drinking pleasure. Nice spread of food to choose from but it's a little overwhelming. Ordered few dishes and sat there enjoying the guinness and watching football while waiting for the food. Molly Roffey does telecast of EPL on match days as well.

Irish stew ($16.80) in the Irish way served with 4 sticks of bread.
The savoury taste of the stew just fills your mouth with the sweetness from the vegetables consisting of diced carrots, potatoes, beans and tomatoes. Light taste of peppers enhanced the diced vegetable softness and sweetness while they melts away in your mouth. The lamb offers excellent bite feel while you sink your teeth into it gently, the lamb is so soft after the long period of slow cooking that the juice from the lamb just burst and melts away into your buds. A real good starter to begins with and its a must try item when you visit MR.

Pork Ribs ($26.80/Full rack) came in time when I drown myself with Guinness and the overall experience just appreciated when the flesh from the tender ribs just rips itself off effortlessly. The rib is slow-cooked to perfection leaving the whole rack intact but soft and tender while you pulls off from the bone.
The Guinness BBQ sauce gives tingly sweet & sourish sauce goes well with the ribs and there is a afterburner of slight heat of hot sauce. The rib is well marinated without some porky smell that some places served, if you know what i meant.

Molly Roffey's Rib-eyes Prime Steak ($20.80 220gms) is chargrilled (Medium) served with mushroom sauce is a perfect combination which i always loved, the mushroom sauce which is mild in taste would not cover up the taste and sweetness of the steak. The medium done ribeye is pretty well grilled and both sides of the steak is sealed with grill marks and all the juices locked in. Juice just flows out from the steak as you sliced. the sweet taste of the meat could be tasted while you chew and nice aromatic smell of the beef fills your taste buds. The mushrooms sauce is creamy and filled with taste of mushroom which blends well with the ribeye that forms a great combination.

Fish & Chips ($14.80) is another must try especially for the ladies as the batter is crispy yet thin which is rarely found. The serving of the fish fillet is of reasonable size with the curly fries served just made this dish better then those cheaper straight cut fries. Crunchy bite feel of the fillet with the garlic-lemon sauce that brings out the sweetness of the premium dory fillet.

After drowning 2 glasses of Guinness, the finale comes with the Irish Guinness Pie ($18.80) with a well baked buttery crusty puff. The braised dark savoury stock is flavourful with the taste of guinness brown sauce coupled with the sweetness from the vegetables and the beefy chunks. The chunks are soft in texture while you eat together with the puff that sucks the stock into itself. This pie gives you a experience of the wonders that Irish food give, a true Irish dish that anyone will die for.

Fusion food with a twist of English

The Coastal Settlement - Fusion food with an English taste. Surrounded by the serene, greenery environment which adds a scene of beauty to the warm sunlight at noon.

The old english Black and white building that houses this vintage restaurant at Changi @ 200 Netheravon Road just opposite the old Changi hospital.

The vintage setup would be one of the attractions that arose your curiosity before the food are being served. From broken old plates, cash register to tables and chairs used in the restaurant made the overall experience even better. The menu has a wide spread of choices that you could hardly make up your mind on which to order. Ranging from western food to local delights and modern desserts of Lava Cakes makes you salivary.

Wifey ordered a prawn alio olio, wild mushrooms soup, curry chicken with rice and ending with Lava cake for the dessert.

Mushrooms soup served in a metal tin and 3 slices of French loaf started the session. The mushroom fragrance is very nice and chunks of mushrooms would fill your tastebud while you sink your teeth into the savoury soup. It's a little salty to me but dipping the bread into the soup would served really well. Sad to say that we found a long hair in the soup which the waiter promptly exchanged a new bowl for us, other then that everything is good.

The prawn alio olio is a different experience from the norm that we usually eat. TCS had added a fusion taste to it with a mix of nyonya to the cooking. The chilli shrimp paste was used to bring the aglio olio to the next level where the East meets the West. Well combination of both with savoury taste.

Slow cooked curry chicken with jasmine rice is another decent choice to have. The aromatic fragrance of coconut milk and strong lemon grass smell further enhance the curry dish. Light smell of dried shrimps lingering around your tastebud makes you wanting more of the gravy. Chicken meat is soft and immersed with curry spice and lemon grass smell which could be better If the spiciness could be stronger.

Their service are great and friendly yet fast serving. Attention from the staffs are not overlooked despite only about 5 of them over looking the 70 seaters restaurant.

Dessert came with nice plating and decent portion. The sourish berries when coupled with the sweet chocolate lava balanced out well. It's sweet enough to brighten up your day which keeps you happy. The lava cake was warm and the scoop of icecream makes a good combination when warm and cold meets while the twist and turns in your mouth. If more time is given for the cake to be heated, the lava flowing would be of a greater impact on visuals.

Nice place for chill out at noon with a beautiful natural greenery painting from The Lord.

Great ambiance, good service, nice food and lovely memories of the past ~ The Coastal Settlement
